Performances this weekend
Just when I thought I could kick back a little… the coming weekend goes gangbusters with an awesome-looking slate of performances.
Thursday, Dec. 10, 7 to 9pm: Paperwork Sets You Free, a performance by Amelia Vella. Part of the opening reception for the group exhibition reSolve, at Downtown Art Center Gallery (DAC).
Saturday, Dec. 12, 8:30am to 4:30pm: This Here and That There, a performance by New York-based artist Vlatka Horvat. Using the LA River as a venue, the artist will continuously rearrange 50 chairs over a period of eight hours into different configurations that suggest human encounters and interactions. At the LA River near the Great Heron Gate, corner of Fletcher Drive and Ripple Street in Elysian Valley. See Outpost for Contemporary Art for details.
Saturday, Dec. 12, 4 to 7pm: Godzilla v. Mothra, a performance piece by Michael Ano. Godzilla and Mothra fight to the death and destroy Tokyo in the process. This epic event will take place at Mike Ano’s home, come rain or shine. A catalogue of essays will be published. See Facebook invite for more details.
Saturday, Dec. 12, 4 to 8pm: Three Women, Performances by Dawn Kasper, Taisha Paggett, and Nancy Popp. Presented by Artist Curated Projects at the home of Eric Kim.
Saturday, Dec. 12, 7 to 10pm: Rio in MIDI, a performance by New York-based artist Andrea Merkx. Part of the opening reception for feeling Feelings, an exhibition organized by artists Meghann McCrory and Ali Prosch for compactspace, 105 East 6th Street, downtown LA.
Sunday, Dec. 13, 5 to 8pm: Emodes of Research, an exhibition and performances by CamLab. Artists Anna Mayer and Jemima Wyman, collaborating as CamLab, will examine the gallery’s specific architecture as an erstwhile storefront through a contemporary placement and examination of objects, communication, and viewership occurring within in it.
